About
Vu got his start as a barista in the early 2000s, an experience he would always look back on fondly. He eventually traded the coffee bar for a career as an illustrator in the video game industry, spending the next 15 years creating commercial art. But after several trips to Vietnam and immersive coffee training there, his passion for coffee was reignited.REWIND is an homage to the era he feels most nostalgic for: the '90s and Y2K. A time of less scrolling, more human connection, and physical controls for your music. It's also a rewind to his own days behind the coffee bar, making drinks and interacting with the public.At the heart of REWIND is traditional Vietnamese coffee: dark, heavy-bodied, and full of character. Inspired by the street-side coffee culture there, REWIND celebrates the simplicity of sipping strong robusta brewed through a phin filter while watching people and motorcycle pass by. There’s something about that experience that’s hard to explain, but even harder to forget. Vu hopes to bring a little of that flavor and feeling to San Francisco.
